Processes of submitting research proposal for ethical approval

  1. Request note to the President of the NECHR in Lao or English, signed by the Principal Investigation and approved by the concerned office
  2. Research proposal in Lao and English (including timeline for conducting the prospective research)
  3. Abstract (1 to 2 A4 page) in Lao and English. The abstract should include research title, objectives, research site, budget, duration of the research, number of participants, source of funding support, amount of funding, name of Principal Investigation, address, E-mail, mobile phone and landline telephone.
  4. Additional documents:
      • Data collection tools in Lao and English (if the research is funded by international agency)
      • Consent form and Information Sheet in Lao and English (if the research is funded by international agency)
      • PI and Co-PI CVs
      • Certification of money transferring to the NECHR account

After completion of the documents, submit all documents through the following E-mail:

Remarks:

For research aiming to conduct in humans, animals, and environment with high risks that will engage participants in high risks, and impact their lives, the research project must prepare

  1. Insurance for the participants
  2. The PI and research team members must be trained in ethics and attached the training certificates
  3. In case the research had been implemented in other country before and wish to conduct the same research in Laos, the researchers must attach the ethical approval of the former research in other country along with the proposal
  4. For research that will use samples of membrane cells, blood, stools, and urine of humans; food and food stuff, trees and medicinal plants, diseases materials, and animals’ specimens that need to transport to laboratories outside Laos, besides the review of the NECHR, the researchers must also register through the Nagoya regulations of the Department of Science, Ministry of Education and Sports

  6. The NECHR will hold a quarterly and an annual meeting
  7. Meeting for approval of research proposal will be held every two months in pair months for final approval of the President

Remarks:

  • The researcher can submit the research proposal for ethical approval at any time
  • The secretariat will accumulate all research proposals and further submitting to the review committee
  • The accumulation of research proposals will be completed two weeks prior to the meeting. Any proposal reaching the secretariat late, will be kept for the next meeting.

Fees for the review

Payment for registration must be made directly to the bank account of the NECHR immediately after submission of research proposal. The review of research project will be done immediately after receiving the proposal. The ethical approval cannot be issued unless the researcher have paid the registration fee.
